Daily Thanthi was founded in the year 1942 in Madurai during the peak of India’s Independence Movement. The newspaper was founded by S. P. Adithanar, and is one of India’s most popularly read regional language daily newspapers. It is a Tamil language newspaper that commands a large, loyal and engaged readership. Over the years since its foundation, the newspaper has grown to become the Tamil language daily newspaper with the largest circulation in India. The newspaper is known as ‘Dina Thanthi’ in Tamil and it holds the ninth spot among all Indian daily newspapers in terms of overall total circulation. It is one of the most respected newspapers in India, and is published in 16 cities across the country. Daily Thanthi also has an international edition, published in Dubai for the Tamil speaking community in the United Arab Emirates, as well as the other Gulf countries.
